RETROERRORDESIGN was contracted to repair broken no sag springs and reupholster a bench seat for a popular restaurant in Redondo Beach, California. The job required both structural work and cosmetic restoration to get the bench back to reliable daily use while matching the existing look of the seating area.
We started by removing the seat cover to expose the internal frame and spring system. With the cover off we were able to inspect the no sag springs and confirm the areas where the coils had failed or lost tension. Replacing these springs was the first priority because they carry the weight and determine how the seat holds up over time.
After removing the old springs, we installed replacement no sag springs to restore proper support and uniform seating. Each spring was fitted and secured so the bench would sit level and provide consistent support across the full seating surface. Replacing the springs first also made it easier to work on the padding and cover without stressing the new support system.
With the new springs in place we prepared the seat for new foam. The original bench was manufactured with a basic foam, so we used higher density foam as specified. The higher density foam was cut and shaped to match the seat contours and to provide firmer, longer lasting support than the original material. Preparing the seat included trimming and fitting the foam so it lay flat and conformed to the bench frame before the cover was reapplied.
For the final step we reupholstered the seat. Using high grade automotive fabric, we matched the existing vinyl where the cover was torn and recovered the seat so the repair blended with the surrounding benches. The fabric selection and matching process focused on durability and appearance, keeping the restaurant seating consistent while addressing the torn section.
This combination of spring replacement, higher density foam, and a matched recover restored both the function and the look of the bench seat. The work was completed on site in Redondo Beach, California and returned the bench to a condition suitable for daily restaurant use. Retro-Error Design handled the full process from removal through reinstallation to make sure the seating met the restaurant's needs for comfort and continuity with the existing vinyl.
